Watoto - Supporters

Supporters

Many people have supported us with this project. On this page we would like to thank all donors who have made exceptional contributions. Lettern Partners GmbH from Duesseldorf would deserve to be at the top of the list, as this company has accompanied us from the very beginning with their generous financial and personal support. Without such help, Mekaela Academies would not exist.

Dear sponsors (of pupils), we haven't included you on this list, it would simply become too long. But we are very proud of our many sponsors from Austria, Czechia, Denmark, England, Germany, Hungary, Kenya, Latvia, Luxemburg, Poland, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Switzerland and the USA.

Our list of donors, for the sake of objectivity in alphabetical order. Please contact us if we missed someone out.

Laura, Alina, Jessy and Hannes in co-productionEvery year since 1998, Eva Morgenstern and pupils of her school class collect money for our project like busy bees. The children help preparing cakes and biscuits or strawberry jam and sell their products on Parents Day or at the annual school bazaar.

This time, Laura, Alina, Jessy und Hannes have put great effort into producing strawberry jam.

Hannes and Vivien at their stand Earlier, we had published all pictures of children helping Eva preparing the events. After so many years, that would require too much space on this page. Therefore, we shall only place the most recent photos here. Dear pupils of Breitbrunn-Gstadt Elementary School who have helped us so much in the past, we hope for your understanding.

After the jam was prepared, Hannes and Vivien managed to sell all glasses during the 2003 school bazaar.  They collected the amazing amount of 220 Euros which will benefit the children of Ukunda.

Julia. * 3.10.86. LibraIn Kenya we made the acquaintance of Miss Julia Baumüller from Munich. That was in April 1998, and Julia was just 11 years old. Instead of hanging around at the pool she preferred paying a visit to Manuel Alexander School one day, so we invited her to join the graduation ceremony that was scheduled to take place at the school. After patiently spending two hours in the baking heat, she informed us that she intended to sponsor a child of the school. Her mother had no objections, but insisted on not being bothered with the financial woes of Julia's idea.

And so it happened that since 1998, Watoto e.V. is proud of a donor who (at the age of then 11) took the decision to support a Kenyan child by her own means. Julia is paying for the sponsorship from her pocket money and other sources of income available to her, for example selling self-made handicraft. Leaves you speechless, doesn't it?

Julia, you are quite some lady.

a boys' football team The boys' football team in dresses donated by the German Football Society (DFB, Beckenbauer and such, you know). Football boots or just sports shoes are still missing, so the kids play barefoot. We will try to change that situation as soon as possible.

Addendum - Since May, 2001, both the girls' and the boys' teams are fully equipped with football boots. Thank you very much, CP Compartner from Essen.

Summer party in Damp During the summer party of Damp Boarding School for Disabled Children in July 2000, Gerd and Simone Blanke conducted some succesful fund raising.

Just to point out who was helping whom: physically handicapped children and their kin donated more than DM 1.500 for our schools. Impressive!

The Blankes and their colleagues from Damp Group of Companies were strongly supporting our project until 2007. Until then they had raised more than 20 sponsorships, and they had helped financing the construction of Lulu High School.

Hallo, Watoto project ,

Thanks for taking the effort to find out our address. We had completely forgotten to send you a letter. You correctly assumed that the money was raised on a bazaar. I (Sascha) Micha and Sascha Gerloff from Bernauwas meant to dissert on Coca Cola, that is why I had organised some promotional material from them (Coke, pencil cases, brochures). As my dissertation had to be cancelled due to my participation in the County Judo Championship we tried to think of a useful way to make use of the stuff. The best seemed to be if we sold the goods for charity purposes. We looked up the internet for charity projects that supported children, discovered your homepage and were excited by your project. We printed out the homepage and displayed them together with a poster we had created, you can see it on the attached photo.

On our school's fète and the anniversary party of my judo club we (my brother Michael and I) sold the Coke and the pencil cases for a donation. Of course, we told everybody about your project. The buyers could decide how much they were willing to contribute. Some people even "donated" DM 5,00 for a Coke. Naturally, we added one month's pocket-money ourselves (comment from Team Watoto: Not so naturally at all). P.S.: We hope Coca Cola does not object against this kind of advertisement. After all, we hadn't asked their permission.

Micha and Sascha Gerloff from Bernau, thanks for your letter. Simply smashing, lads. Thank you!

Markus auctioning in Stuttgart 2002Markus in action, at the microphone: From 2000 until 2003, we collected money for Watoto on the trade fair "Heim + Elektronik" in Stuttgart , or better said: we earned it. During five tough days we sold and auctioned keyboards, mice and other computer peripherals visitors of the fair.

Thanks to these events we managed to collect a total of more than EUR 100.000. That money was used to complete LPS.

Our special thanks goes to the volunteers who worked very hard to make the event a success: Sascha, Gina, Frank, Tatjana, Kerstin, Gaby, Sven and Alex.

Willy-Brandt-School handing chequeEvery year, pupils and teachers of  Willy-Brandt-School in Uebach-Palenberg organize and conduct a run for charity. On June 23rd, 2004, the pupils were flipping their heels for Watoto and collected the amazing amount of EUR 4.500,00. Apart from their remarkable stamina the children showed a decent sense of responsibility, as they decided to allocate the money towards a full sponsorship for a child at Mekaela Academies. The pupils want to pursue the progress of their protègé.

That was impressive, and we were very proud that in the following years, you dedicated your charity run to Watoto until today. Since 2004, the school managed to raise funds totalling 16.500 Euros for our project. Thank you very much! (Click on the image to view it in XXL)

ATSV WU10 Girl's Basketball Team 2009Since 2006 the Basketball department of the Ahrensburger Turn- und Sportverein (ATSV) supports our pupil Brian Njuguna. During their great annual Basketball Mini-Tournament they collect funds for Brian. For a whole week-end more than 30 teams of  young (thus "mini") players up to the age of 12 years compete for cups, prizes, fame and honour for a whole week-end. The tournament is very well organised and extremely popular among the children. View the report of last year's tournament here.

Brian is a basketball player himself, it is his favourite sport. Thanks to the support of ATSV and the "minis" he has made it to Form 2 of Lulu High Secondary School and should complete his KCSE exams by the end of 2010. Thanks a lot to the young players and especially to the ATSV the organising committee around Stefan Möller. (Click on the image to view it in XXL)
